What do I do if my husband and I cannot come to a mutual agreement on baby names for the future?

My husband and I cannot agree. For example, for a girl he likes Isabelle and I like Ava. How can we agree? Who gets the deciding vote?

What do I do if my husband and I cannot come to a mutual agreement on baby names for the future?
I hope you have all boys.

LOL!
Reply:You need to learn to compromise. If you can't agree on a baby's name, you both are going to have a long, hard road ahead of you when it comes to parental disagreements. You need to sit down and start negotiating right now. Listen with an open mind as to why his name choice is better than yours. If it's a family name, respect that, with the compromise that the other partner choose the name for the next child. Or compromise on which parent gets to name which gender child, or swap who chooses first and middle names.

If this is going to be your only child, you will have to find other ways of compromising. Maybe you can ask a relative, pick names out of a hat, or even consult a psychic.

These are basic life skills here... you need to learn to compromise now, before your children learn to use your disagreements against you.
Reply:Agree in the present instead of the future. If you're not having a baby today, it's not a problem. Stop making problems for yourself that don't exist.
Reply:The my husband and I did was if we had a boy he names him and if we have a girl I name her. We had a boy and he named him. It's only fair.
Reply:Well, I think that I would curb that disagreement until you are actually going to have a baby.

Reply:use one of them for the first name and one of them for the middle name. that way you both win.
Reply:You just use one as the first name and one as the middle name. Simple.
Reply:Can one be the middle and one the first?

Is it weird that a guy thinks about baby names?

I mean not every day like that but there have been times when im thinking about my future and girlfriends/marrage/kids come into the picture and i think about what names i like and stuff like that. LoL do you think thats crazy?

Im 23 and single and i love kids and cant wait to have my own; lol i like to think ahead of time... im planning stuff!

Is it weird that a guy thinks about baby names?
No way! I think that's awesome that you think of names! You remind me of a writer. Female and male writers both spend a lot of time picking out just the right name.

It's nice to see a guy interested in children, because kids need guys (just as much as they need girls) as role models - especially little boys.

Ethan is my favorite off of your list:)
Reply:No thats not weird at all!!!!!!!!

My hubby is 20 and has had names picked out for future children for a looooong time. Weird b/c now that were pregnant with our first he has come out with all these names that he likes and says hes had picked out for forever so it kinda surprised me at first.

I never thought that men would do the same as women ( having names picked out before actually becoming preg.) but its actually quite cute :)

And i have told a few friends that he has had names picked out for a while and they said that their bf's or hubbys have too.

So very cute, and not weird at all.
Reply:No that's adorable. My husband had a boy's name picked out already, and had several girl's names he liked but wasn't committed to.

I guess you have to hope you get with someone with similar tastes, because if you already have something you love, she might have something SHE really loves!

Cute names that you picked; I especially like Ethan.
Reply:I actually find that quality amazing. Wanting to be a father is something that is of top priority to many women.

I love the names you chose. Zach, Beau, and Hunter are actually on the top of my lists! Well done!
Reply:Ok im a guy so take my answer when i say no it isnt weird. Its normal i guess, since i hear peoples names and think hey that would be a good name to name my kid.
Reply:That's not weird at all. It shows you are future oriented . You're not crazy at all. Visualizing your future can make it happen. Don't stop doing this. You will make an excellent partner and father!
Reply:I love Ben! Beau, Zach, and Ethan are also nice.

That is nice you are already thinking of names. I wish my husband would. LOL
Reply:I think its cute!!! my boyfriend and i are trying to conceive, and he is also looking at baby names... he actually picked the one that we are going to go with...
Reply:That's not crazy... you're thinking about getting married and having kids. Totally normal.
Reply:I think that that's sweet and adorible. maybe one day you could post some of your favorite baby names!!

^_^

Reply:No its not weird i mean wen you have kids they will be your as well as your partners
Reply:No!! It's sweet!
Reply:No my boyfriend of 20 years old..thinks about that all the time..He just likes to think about the future.
Reply:no way. i think it's awesome. most women wish their men did. you also have a great list of names.
Reply:OMG no it's not weird, you are so cute!!! and i like the names you picked especially Ben, Hunter %26amp; Ethan :)
Reply:no, its very sweet %26amp; most guys dont even care.
Reply:No Its cute!! =)
Reply:No its cute =] I like Hunter and Zach!
Reply:weird no.

What baby names do you think will make a comeback within the next 10 years?

Do you think names like Margaret, Veronica, Cynthia, Annabel, Lydia, Meredith, etc. will come back within the next decade?

What baby names do you think will make a comeback within the next 10 years?
I like the names Veronica (my cousins name), Cynthia and Annabel. The rest I can do without. lol
Reply:I think Ann(e) might.
Reply:Yes those and then some others like Hannah, Emma, Grace etc....

Reply:Yah, I think they will. Classics will return to combat all the misspelled names.
Reply:Linda, Jane, Barbara, Diane, Susan, etc. All the common names that were popular in the 50's will make a comeback. I think people are going to be tired of the wierd names, the misspellings, and even the old fashioned victorian names and name kids "after my grandma."
Reply:We can only hope these beautiful names will make a comeback. Seems likely as everything is cyclical. Who would have ever thought anyone would like the name Isabelle/a or Emmett? They are such old, old names and yet they're back.
Reply:I honestly have no idea.

How to reach a compromise on baby name?Suggestions on boy names?

My boyfriend and I cant come to an agreement on any names. I come up with tons of ideas but he just rejects them but doesnt come up with any ideas of his own. I like names that are neutral and people cant determine whether my baby is black or white and he likes names like Dante and Kierra! HELP!

How to reach a compromise on baby name?Suggestions on boy names?
Find something different and unusual that you like, I like Allegra and Kyla for girls and Jamie and Benjamin for boys

Reply:Dante and Kierra aren't that bad.

niether of them are "black" names. Sure "black" people have those names but have different orogins.

The origin of the name Dante is Latin

You can always tell him to write a list of names he likes...then you can "modify" those names and see if he likes them.
Reply:Wow, gymnast really came up with a lot of names. Personally, I have never seen such a long list of names I didn't like!

I like names that have a long and short version, and sound good for a baby/child as well as an adult.

For example Marianne for a girl or Michael for a boy.
Reply:First, I LOVE Dante and Kierra (one of my favorite names). I don't think of race at all when I think of those names.

Second, I would suggest you and your boyfriend both look though a baby name book. Look through separately, alone, and each write down all the names you like. IF there are any names you both like, there you go!

Good luck
Reply:Use his names as middle names then make a list of 10 boy names and 10 girls names you love and let him choose the first name from that list, but make sure you don't just like 10 names you know he'll hate, lol.
Reply:I don't really care for either of those names....but Dante is deffinatelyy black and Kierra can be either. So if you have a boyy I suggest findng a new name! But you can use Kierra for a girl.
Reply:i absolutely think race when i hear dante and kierra....especially dante.

In my opinion...if hes not offering any suggestions ....pick a few that you like and give him the option between 5 or 6 to pick which one he likes best.
Reply:Well he may not like these but

for a girl

Sonia Varlerie

Gabrielle Carina

or Leslie Shania

And for a boy

Christian Rylan?
Reply:well, if he likes Dante then try to convince him of something close that you like, like Daniel fora boy and Danielle for a girl.
Reply:Mitchell, Micheal, Sean (Shawn), Byron, Marcus,
Reply:For a boy Ethan or Julian and for a girl Laila or Paige...
Reply:How about you choose the first name and he chooses the middle name?

Baby names for girls when i start having them anyway?

When i start having kids considering my age at the momment i was thinking of the names: Mika Kystal, Hope Light, Misty Lillian, and Sara Gina(this one is after my two best friends). I really dont want boys but if i do i was thinking of naming him: James Damien or Sirius Orion. what do you think and no i'm waiting til after college for children.

Baby names for girls when i start having them anyway?
For your boys, I like Damian James as a combination. For girls, I like Lillian Hope. If you are going to wait a few years, you will probably have new ideas then..what I would suggest is record your favourite names in a journal and when its time, look back at those and if there are names you still like, then it is a good sign. Enjoy college...time flies, so enjoy every moment while you can!
Reply:Mika Kystal~ it's kind of all over the place

Hope Light~ sounds like the name of a soap opera spoof

Misty Lillian~ Love Lillian, it's classic and beautiful. Misty is too down market to be paired with such a great name.

Sara Gina~ both are pretty names, but the double UH sound does not flow well.

James Damien~ it's ok, but the movie The Omen has pretty much killed the name Damien for me.

Sirius Orion~ if it wasn't for the Sirius Black character in the HP books I would like. Even though it's a little too "in the stars" for my taste.
Reply:lillian is beautiful! i also like peyton, hayley, sara (not speeled sarah), amber, hayden, claire, kaitlyn (katie, kate), brittany, summer, elizabeth (liz, lizzy, ellie), allie. just some more ideas.

for boys, i think damian is really cute, and so is james, i would use damian as a first name though, same goes for lillian. some more that i like are nathan, lucas, jack, michael, chris, cody, ryan, adrian, derek, matthew, william.
Reply:personally i dont like hope light, it sounds really tacky

mika kystal (is that supposed to be krystal?) is nice

sara gina for me is too plain

misty lillian...lillian is a really pretty name, but spelled 'lilian' with one 'l'. misty kinda just ruins it for me!

james damien - nice

sirius orion is too starry for me - they are both constellations, i think!

so really, i like some and dont like some but its your choice.

really, my decisions dont make a huge impact on your life so if you like it, go with it!
Reply:I think your choices will change when you are married...if your not already of course. All the names I liked when I was younger my husband did not like,lol.... We had to come up with a list together which is really fun and you might even be surprised of the Daddy to be's choices!

For now, I like Mika light and Damien James, lol

Goodluck and all the best for when the time comes!
Reply:LoL. I like Mika Krystal, HATE hope light, don't like Misty Lillian, Sara Gina is okay but I dont think it really rolls off the tongue.

I like James Damien, HATE Sirius Orion. Orion reminds me of onions, and Sirius reminds me of Sinus.

How do you get your spouse to help pick out baby names?

Im having a hard time getting my husband to not change the subject when i ask him about baby names, how do i get him to just give me some input on the naming of our child?

How do you get your spouse to help pick out baby names?
I gave my husband a list of names I liked and told him to check or circle the ones he liked. If you do 90% of the work in the beginning, you might be able to get him to open up about the kinds of names he likes.

He probably doesn't want to get into a fight with you over the name; either that, or simply choosing the name makes the baby 'real' to him and that's a scary prospect for some people.
Reply:My advice would be to not ask for his help unless you are going to truly treasure his answer. Personally, I've learned not to ask my husband anything that I really don't want the answer to. (paint color, tile samples, kids issues, etc.) because the minute he gives an opinion, I hate it %26amp; do my own thing anyhow. Pick a name YOU love %26amp; don't worry about it. Save your battle for who's going to get up in the middle of the night %26amp; feed %26amp; change the baby. Bigger fish to fry my dear! Good luck!
Reply:Start suggesting a bunch that you know he'll hate then he'll have no choice but to come up with something better which gives you more options and shows you what he's looking for.
Reply:Don't push the issue, it'll really turn him off. Some men just can't be bothered with picking names %26amp; why, I don't know. Nevertheless, choose names you like, write the complete names out on paper %26amp; put them aside. In time, your husband will ask you about the name, then you can tell him what names you like. I'm sure he'll let you know if there's a name he strongly dislikes. Good luck.
Reply:Stop pestering him. If he doesn't have an opinion, then name the baby yourself. Wish I could have named my kids. I didn't have a say with either one.
Reply:well here's a shot in the dark- pick the ugliest name that u know to see if he rebuttals then say to him, "that's gonna be the baby's name if u don't start giving me some suggestions."

and if that doesn't work then i don't know what else to tell u. good luck hon. and congrats...
Reply:He might think that is something you should do and does not want to be bothered by it. Why not sit him down and ask him what the problem is, let him know you would like for both of you to come up with a name. If he is still not interested, then pick the name yourself.
Reply:My husband wouldn't help me either. I kept coming up with name ideas and he would only say he didn't really like them, but when I asked for his input he wouldn't have any ideas. So I stuck with the first name that I really liked and kept trying different middle names. I finally found a middle name that I just loved and I wrote it down and showed it to him. He looked at it and said he liked it. That was the first name suggestion he liked, he never even liked the first name until I paired it with that middle name.
Reply:Just say...well if it doesn't matter to you then I'll be naming our baby
Reply:I would ask him why he does this. He may feel that it's too early to think about that. My husband didn't really want to discuss it until we knew what we were having (why disagree about a boy name if you're having a girl?).

I think open and honest communication will work best.
Reply:tell him that you've picked out a perfect name.. and say a name that is horrible.. like fred or wilbur.. I'm sure he will gladly put some impute into helping you
Reply:Pick some awful name like Norbit or Edberg or something like that.

Be subtle.Don't act too desperate.

Make it seem natural.Do some research on some really bad names so when you present them as possibilities you will show that your serious.
Reply:What if the two of you looked on the Internet together at various baby name websites? I like babynamesworld.com. Or the two of you could go to the bookstore and sit in those comfy chairs to look. Or if you hear a name you like, pitch it to him and see what his thought are. If I were you I would explain to him that it is important to you that he be a part of the process of choosing a name for your baby. Hope this helps! Good luck and Congratulations! :)
Reply:Pick one you know he hates and say "That's it! That's the name" and then he will want to have a say.
Reply:Guys are weird that way, mine ran everytime I took the book out. I ended up making a list of about 20 names that I liked and I gave it to him. He was forced to pick which ones were his favorite. Needless to say, he actually went through the list and had comments about every single one!

Just an idea.
